Free and fair elections impossible with Musharraf in uniform: Imran

Former cricketetr and Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan has said that it is crystal clear that free and fair elections in Pakistan were impossible as long as Musharraf retains his uniform.

Islamabad, Aug 8 : Former cricketetr and Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan has said that it is crystal clear that free and fair elections in Pakistan were impossible as long as Musharraf retains his uniform.

Imran demanded that Musharraf give up his uniform prior to elections.

Talking to reporters at Faislabad, Imran said that a meeting of the All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) on Independence Day (August 14) would decide the opposition's future course against the Musharraf regime.

Musharraf often spoke of extremism in the country, but people in Pakistan had been trying to get rid of poverty and the price hike, Imran said.

He said Muslims in Iraq had been segregated into Shias and Sunnis whereas Pakistani people divided into liberals and extremists.

"People in favour of US policies are considered moderates and liberals while the remaining are supposed to be extremists," he said.

Commenting on the violence in tribal areas, Imran said the use of guns has created a sense of deprivation among people, and this had prompted them to join the Taliban.

"Dialogue is the sole solution to bring peace and tranquillity in tribal areas and any other decision will not bear fruit," the Dawn quoted him, as saying.
