Islamabad, Aug 7 : Former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto would like to rule rather than being a junior partner in the next government under Pervez Musharraf, a local daily has claimed.
According to the Daily Times, the statement of Benazir that the PPP would be a part of the government with Musharraf as President "if the people give the mandate", indicates that the party would like to rule.
Terming the option of agitation as a "double-edged sword", Benazir has warned that it might lead to violence and subsequent imposition of emergency or "military rule" in the country.
The daily further said that Musharraf-Bhutoo deal reveals weakness of President Musharraf which has "put some steel in ruling PML's backbone".
"The PML is now asserting its own view of how the PPP should be "accommodated". It is clearly a post-election "arrangement", with the PML and not the PPP in the driving seat," the paper said.
Earlier, secretary general of the party Mushahid Hussain, has told The Washington Post that General Musharraf "will be a simple Mr Musharraf" before the year is out that means that the party is already waving a goodbye to him.
MMA secretary general Maulana Fazlur Rehman says that he fears martial law if General Musharraf is thwarted through protest.
"I personally feel we should bail Gen Musharraf out because, if the opposition mounted pressure on him, a situation like that of 1969 may arise when Ayub Khan handed over power to General Yahya Khan; or some other general may venture to take over," Rehamn had said.
