Musharraf wants people to keep guessing on his meeting with Benazir

Refusing to give details of his meeting with former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in Abu Dhabi last month, Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf told the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leaders to let the people keep guessing about it.

Karachi, Aug 6 : Refusing to give details of his meeting with former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in Abu Dhabi last month, Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf told the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leaders to let the people keep guessing about it.

"Let people guess about the meeting. You shouldn't care for it. Why do you go into details?" Musharraf told leaders of the MQM and the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) at a meeting here on Sunday.

Musharraf said that contacts were made with opposition parties, but didn't elaborate on which issues.

Federal Communications Minister Shamim Siddiqui told a TV channel that Musharraf had confirmed to the MQM about his meeting with Benazir, but another MQM member said the President neither confirmed nor denied the meeting, the Daily Times reported.

Presidential circles confirmed that Musharraf and Benazir met in Abu Dhabi on July 27.

The confirmation had come through Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool, who had stated that the meeting was a 'positive sign for the country'

The one-hour long meeting was facilitated by United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayid al-Nahyan.
