Karzai has bad news for Bush at Camp David

Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai is scheduled to meet US President George Bush at Camp David, but the two-day meet will see the US leadership and his strategists preparing a new blueprint for Kabul, beginning from the scratch.

Washington, Aug 6 : Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai is scheduled to meet US President George Bush at Camp David, but the two-day meet will see the US leadership and his strategists preparing a new blueprint for Kabul, beginning from the scratch.

That Karzai's words will not be jingle to Bush's ears was made clear by Karzai before he embarked for the Camp David meet.

"The security situation in Afghanistan over the past two years has definitely deteriorated," Karzai told in an interview to CNN in Kabul.

"The Afghan people have suffered," he said adding, "Terrorists have killed our schoolchildren. They have burned our schools. They have killed international helpers."

The grim and bleak picture of Afghanistan as described by Karzai will make US President take note of the Taliban's rise in the southern part of the country.

The New York Times reported that Afghan ambassador to the US, T Jawad, has said that Karzai would present Bush with a request for more financial assistance for the Afghan police, armoured vehicles, guns and better airlift capability for the Afghan Army.

The Camp David meet which will discuss "progress and challenges" in Afghanistan will also see Bush and Karzai discussing about the dreaded al-Qaeda chief, Osama bin Laden, who still remains elusive.

On being asked about the possibility of bin Laden being captured, Karzai said: "We are not closer, we are not further away from it. We are where we were a few years ago."

Issue pertaining to the hostage of 21 South Koreans by the Taliban last month is also slated to be discussed.
