After the fiasco of Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhrys sacking that ultimately saw his reinstatement, Pakistan ruling party, Pakistan Muslim League, is looking for a scapegoat to save its skin.
Islamabad, Aug 5 : After the fiasco of Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry's sacking that ultimately saw his reinstatement, Pakistan ruling party, Pakistan Muslim League, is looking for a scapegoat to save its skin.
Commenting on the Supreme Court decision to reinstate Chief Justice Chaudhry, party's Mian Manzoor Ahmad Watto said that the verdict would help Nawaz and Shahbaz Sharifs' safe return to the country.
"It would be the greatest loss for our party. We should find some scapegoat if we need to save the whole herd," sources privy to the party's Central Executive Committee (CEC) quoted Watto, as saying.
During the party's executive meeting, there was a big difference of opinion on all the major issues, including President Pervez Musharraf-Benazir Bhutto meeting in Abu Dhabi, Musharraf's re-election from current assemblies, and the Lal Masjid episode.
"Sacrifice some big shot. If we do it today, we can have a better tomorrow or we will have to face the music in future," The Nation quoted Sher Afgan, as saying.
Justice (Retd.) Azam Khan was of the view that the Justice Qayyum should take his words back that the PM should resign if decision came in favour of the Chief Justice.
"Judges are still furious over us. Law Secretary should be sacked," Khan said.
Kabir Ali Wasti, Gen (Retd) Majeed Malik, Senator S M Zafar and Senator Nilofer Bakhtiar were not in favour of President Musharraf's re-election in uniform, the sources told the newspaper.
"These four were of the view that the president should doff off his uniform and get re-elected from fresh assemblies as a civilian president," the sources added.
"Overall, the meeting remained successful as it was necessary to take the CEC members into confidence over the issues going on in the country," the sources concluded.
