Health and safety bureaucrats splashed out 12,000 pounds on a bath towel study to know whether laying them on the bathroom floor makes one more or less likely to trip.
London, Aug 4 : Health and safety bureaucrats splashed out 12,000 pounds on a bath towel study to know whether laying them on the bathroom floor makes one more or less likely to trip.
The Government-funded study titled 'The Role of Towels as a Control to Reduce Slip Potential' at Buxton, Derbyshire however failed to draw any conclusions.
What's more surprising is that boffins are looking forward to another 12,000 pounds to fund an extra year of research.
"Testing is insufficient, but trends suggest that it may be considered a suitable control measure to lay a towel as anti-slip control in wet areas," the Sun quoted the researchers, as saying.
In the Department of Trade and Industry-funded study led by Kevin Hallas, researchers put water on different types of floors and measured the towel's friction and found that no towel was needed if the floor was dry.
"If the floor's not wet it may be better without a towel, Hallas said.
"We expected investigations to be more straight-forward," he added.
