White Fiat Uno responsible for Dianas death, says French cop

A detective who led the initial probe into Princess Dianas death has claimed that the driver of a mystery white Fiat Uno caused the royals death.

London, Aug 31 : A detective who led the initial probe into Princess Diana's death has claimed that the driver of a mystery white Fiat Uno caused the royal's death.

The news comes exactly ten years after the princess died during a high-speed crash in Paris.

Jean Claude Mules, who conducted the initial French inquest, said that he and his officers found enough evidence to claim that the car had a collision with the vehicle carrying Diana and Dodi Al Fayed seconds before the fatal crash.

Mules added that they would 'have had the killer' if they would have been able to trace the driver.

"It's a good thing that we didn't actually find the owner of the white Fiat Uno, otherwise he would have become the Princess's killer," the Daily Express quoted Mules, as saying.

"We found that there were approximately 7,000 to 8,000 Fiat Unos and we examined 5,500 of them," said Mr Mules, who was speaking in Paris where he is now retired.

"We checked all their cars and their owners, who had to tell us exactly where they were on the night of the crash, but we never found it."

The vehicle was spotted coming into the tunnel exactly at the time as Diana's car and has triggered several conspiracy theories including that the fiat caused the late princess' vehicle to crash.

Two suspects named were photog James Andanson, who later died under mysterious circumstances, and security guard Le Van Thanh.

However, Thanh has been denying any involvement in the case

During a preliminary hearing at London's High Court in July, the coroner said that a decision can be made only after the driver's whereabouts are traced.
