London, Aug 31 : Kids in the UK are so ignorant about the food they eat, that one in 20 of them believe that chips grow on farms.
The finding is based on a survey of 1,000 kids carried out by Dairy Farmers of Britain.
To their shock, the researchers also found that not only do the same number of children not know where milk comes from, but 7 percent also thought that Chicken Kievs come from farms.
6 per cent of youngsters were not aware that farmers also produce milk, while one in nine or 11 percent didn't believe that potatoes are grow in farms, reports The Scotsman.
Phil Gibson, the head of corporate affairs for Dairy Farmers of Britain, said that the research clearly showed the need to educated kids on where their food really comes from.
"It is clear from our findings that children still need to be educated where their food comes from," he was quoted, as saying.
"Although it is encouraging that most children know where their food comes from, it is still worrying that many do not know the type of food that comes from a farm.
"If we are to combat growing health concerns such as obesity in the UK, we must address children's education, linking food back to the countryside and local food production from a young age."
The survey was carried out on the heels of a previous research that showed that 2 per cent of city children thought cows laid eggs, while one in three thought that eating grass would turn cows' milk green.
