Pakistans Religious Affairs Minister Muhammad Ejaz ul Haq has said the country could go back to a 1970-71 like situation if President Pervez Musharraf engineers a deal with Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chief Benazir Bhutto.
Islamabad, Aug 31 : Pakistan's Religious Affairs Minister Muhammad Ejaz ul Haq has said the country could go back to a "1970-71 like situation" if President Pervez Musharraf engineers a deal with Pakistan People's Party (PPP) chief Benazir Bhutto.
Ejaz said that Bhutto is trying to come to power with Washington's support, and she wanted to roll back the country's nuclear programme.
In the past, she had damaged the Kashmir cause and the interests of Sikhs, the Daily Times quoted him, as saying.
Ejaz said all opposition parties would unite if the Musharraf-Benazir deal is finalised, and added that extremism would also increase in the country after the deal.
Ejaz said he tried to save precious lives in the Lal Masjid episode, but complained that his relations with Maulana Abdul Rashid Ghazi were given a negative impression.
He said he wanted to protect madrassas like his house and he was in contact with Wifaqul Madaris.
