President Pervez Musharraf has said that an eminent personality has asked former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to abide by his agreement not to return to Pakistan before the end of his 10 year exile.
Islamabad, Aug 30 : President Pervez Musharraf has said that an "eminent personality" has asked former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to abide by his agreement not to return to Pakistan before the end of his 10 year exile.
"I also urge him (Nawaz) to abide by the agreement," Musharraf told a gathering after inaugurating a new bridge linking Pind Dadan Khan with Mandi Bahauddin.
"He entered into a written agreement with a very eminent personality, a great friend and well-wisher of Pakistan and this personality has given him a message not to violate this agreement. He should also show character and not violate the agreement," Musharraf said.
Musharraf said that former premier had himself opted to go abroad to avoid life imprisonment.
He stressed that there is need for stability in the country till the general elections are held.
Musharraf said that it was important to understand the threats Pakistan is facing, and to have political and national reconciliation to counter these challenges.
Political reconciliation could be achieved if the people voted for progressive representatives, the Daily Times quoted him, as saying.
"I can foresee the external and internal threats and the vested interests that want to create an atmosphere of uncertainty, and urge the people to be wary of it," Musharraf said.
He accused some exiled political leaders of trying to create an impression that they had done a lot for Pakistan.
