London, Aug. 29 : An IT worker from Brighton has set a new world land-speed record when he clocked nearly 110mph on a jet-powered skateboard.
Joel King, 27, beat the previous record of 98mph (158km/h) on a four-foot-long board that had an engine strapped to the back.
In a series of runs at a disused airbase in Woodbridge, Suffolk, King raced to the record in just over two seconds.
The board, which cost 7,000 pounds to build, has no steering mechanism or brakes.
King lay only two inches from the kerosene-fuelled engine, which reached 120lb of thrust.
