Washington, Aug 29 : The growing discontent within the Pakistan Army against Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf and the fear of being abused by people has led military personnel to avoid taking leave to visit their homes and families.
"Everyone is aware of the backlash against the army and blames Musharraf," the Time magazine quoted Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, former petroleum minister in Nawaz Sharif government, as saying.
Khan, who belongs to a family of military men, said that the soldiers are declining home leave "because they are sick of being insulted".
Khan said that a relative who is in the armed forces had told him that there was a deep simmering dissatisfaction in the ranks over the way the army was being used for political means.
Recently, he said, soldiers were advised not to wear their uniforms on streets, over fears of a backlash.
According to Global Security, a strategic group, the strength of Pakistani Army is 5,20000, larger than that of the United States, with a reserve element of 500,000.
