Camilla to spend Diana memorial service day at Charles mountain retreat

Prince Charles wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, will spend the Princess Diana memorial day alone at his Birkhall estate in Aberdeenshire.

London, Aug 28 : Prince Charles' wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, will spend the Princess Diana memorial day alone at his Birkhall estate in Aberdeenshire.

Camilla had earlier accepted an invitation extended by Charles and Diana's sons Princes William and Harry, but public outrage compelled her to pull out of the service.

Sources close to the Duchess revealed that she was "furious and upset" over the way the entire episode was handled by Charles' camp, and that she is once again feeling like 'Public Enemy No1'.

"Camilla once again feels like Public Enemy No1. It was never her intention to deflect attention from the anniversary of such a tragic occasion," The Sun quoted a source, as saying.

"Feelings will be running high and Camilla will have to be so careful not to be spotted out shopping or with the slightest smile on her face.

"If she hands people the smallest excuse, she will be in danger of further damaging the progress of the past ten years."

The Daily Mail also reports that the issue of whether or not Camilla should have attended the memorial service has caused her and Charles to have "their worst row since they married".

Also said to be upset over the issue are Princes William and Harry who invited their stepmother.

They are said to be fuming over the way Diana's memorial service has been "hijacked".

"They want it to be a celebration of their mother's life and achievements and an occasion for contemplation of a life cut tragically short," a pal said.

Camilla's decision to pull out came after her mother-in-law Queen Elizabeth II told the Duchess that she need not attend.

The service takes place at the Guards' Chapel in Wellington Barracks, London, on Friday to mark the tenth anniversary of Diana's death.
