Zahid replaces Pak Law Minister Zafar

After the failure of the Musharraf regime to defend the presidential reference against Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has completed the process of changing his legal team by replacing Wasi Zafar with Zahid Hamid as new law minister.

Islamabad, Aug 26 : After the failure of the Musharraf regime to defend the presidential reference against Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has completed the process of changing his legal team by replacing Wasi Zafar with Zahid Hamid as new law minister.

In a long-expected reshuffle in the federal cabinet, Aziz made Hamid the Law Minister and Zafar the Minister For Privatisation.

Aziz also accepted the resignation of Law Secretary Justice (retired) Mansoor Ahmed.

The premier has taken the decision of changing his legal team after hectic consultations with President Musharraf, The News reported.

After the reinstatement of the Chief Justice, the government was under constant pressure to axe Wasi Zafar, Mansoor Ali Khan and Makhdoom Ali Khan, sources said.

They said that changes were imminent after the Supreme Court decision as voices were also raised within the PML for poorly preparing the case as well as mishandling it afterwards.

Zafar and Ahmed were the main persons in charge of preparing the reference against Chief Justice Chaudhry.
