Musharrafs uniform is the biggest issue, says Benazir

Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has said that President Pervez Musharrafs uniform is the biggest issue, and added that it would be illegal for the General to seek re-election as a President in uniform.

Lahore, Aug 25 : Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has said that President Pervez Musharraf's uniform is the biggest issue, and added that it would be illegal for the General to seek re-election as a President in uniform.

Bhutto said that if Musharraf contested the presidential election in uniform, lawyers across the country would take the matter to the court.

Commenting on her ongoing talks with Musharraf, Bhutto said, "We are discussing a facilitated transfer to democracy through the holding of free and fair elections. We haven't reached an agreement yet, so I am not in a position to tell you where the negotiations are heading."

The Pakistan People's Party (PPP) would not support a President in uniform, and her party was in contact with the government since 1999, but the earlier talks didn't lead to an understanding, she added.

Speaking on a consensus government comprising Musharraf, Nawaz Sharif and herself, Bhutto said that there was a possibility of internal reconciliation and Sharif had also recently made a statement on conditional cooperation with Musharraf.

She admitted that she had met the Israeli ambassador to the United Nations, but said that it was not a one-on-one meeting.

Bhutto also welcomed the Supreme Court's decision on the Sharifs' petitions, and said that the Sharif family had the right to return to Pakistan, the Daily Times reported.
