Nepal Prime Minister allays doubts over crucial polls

Dispelling doubts over the Constituent Assembly election, Nepal Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala assured on Friday that the polls would be held on November 22 as scheduled.

Kathmandu, Aug 24 : Dispelling doubts over the Constituent Assembly election, Nepal Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala assured on Friday that the polls would be held on November 22 as scheduled.

At a meeting with a Human Rights and Peace Society (HURPES) delegation at his official residence, Koirala said the government is committed and well prepared for the polls.

"The government is committed and well prepared to carry out the Constituent Assembly election in a free, fair, and timely manner. So, there is no need to raise doubts on the possibility of holding it," Koirala was quoted by Nepalnews as saying.

Meanwhile, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Bhojraj Pokharel affirmed that the Constituent Assembly elections would be held on the stipulated date and has requested that no doubts should be raised about the polls, although many challenges lie ahead.

Speaking at a programme titled 'The Role of Young Students for the Success of the Constituent Assembly Election', Pokharel said the students should reach out in the villages and publicise about the election.

Remarks of Koirala and Pokharel have come in the wake of doubts being raised over the possibility of holding the election on time from various quarters.
