Japanese PM visits Kolkatas Netaji Museum

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his wife Akie Abe, who visited Kolkatas Netaji Museum on Thursday, said he was thrilled to see the museum of legendry freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

Kolkata, Aug 24 : Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his wife Akie Abe, who visited Kolkata's Netaji Museum on Thursday, said he was thrilled to see the museum of legendry freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

"I had a great opportunity to see the great Subhash Chandra Bose Museum, for which we have a strong admiration and respect," he said.

Bose has been credited with opening links between India and Japan when he took the help from the Japanese army during World War II, to fight the British who had colonised India.

Netaji Museum is a historic house associated with sacred memories of two illustrious sons of India -- Sarat Chandra Bose and Subhash Chandra Bose.

Abe also released a few books on the life and history of the revolutionary leader.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Abe paid a visit to the Missionaries of Charity, an order established by Mother Teresa.

Sister Nirmala, who succeeded Mother Teresa, said Mrs. Abe was a friend of the order.

"Two-and-a-half years ago, she (Akie Abe) went to Delhi to our home. So, she thought this time also she would go. But her husband decided to come here. Now she is visiting our children," she said.

Kolkata was home to Mother Teresa, who worked for the uplift of the poor and the downtrodden.

Mother Teresa was beatified by the Pope John Paul II. She was awarded the Noble Prize in 1979 for her humanitarian work.
