Couple spends £2,000 on pet chickens treatment!

A couple in South Wales spent almost 2,000 pounds on the treatment of their chicken, in order to get their beloved pet out of depression.

London, Aug. 23 : A couple in South Wales spent almost 2,000 pounds on the treatment of their chicken, in order to get their beloved pet out of depression.

Vicky Mills and her husband Sam borrowed money from the bank, and lived frugally for an entire year to pay for the treatment of their one-legged chicken, Lily, which had been operated seven times and had a leg amputated.

Twenty Four-year old Mrs Mills, a charity worker, says that it was worth it to see the smile back on her beak.

She was horrified when her pet Rhode Island Red got her left leg trapped in a barbed wire fence. Despite being warned by a vet that the cost involved in trying to save the damaged drumstick would amount to significantly more than chicken feed, she instructed him to do whatever he could.

Even when Lilly's owners were told that the chicken's leg would have to be amputated in order to save her life, the couple did not hesitate to meet the costs.

More medical bills poured in when Lily was diagnosed with depression.

"She's worth every penny. I've not had a holiday this year because of the vet's bills. But I love her to bits and it would break my heart if anything happened to her," the Daily Mail quoted Mills as saying.

Being alone in the house was getting her down, so now the couple leave the television on whenever they leave their home in Cwmbran, South Wales.

"We were devastated when Lily's leg got snagged in the barbed wire. Our vet said he could try to save her leg and we gave the go-ahead whatever the cost. My wife loves that chicken so much that she could not bear to have her put down," said Mills husband.

"It sounds daft when the vet told us that she was suffering from depression after the operations. But now she is a happy hen again and laying eggs regularly for us. She is quite happy to hop around on one leg. But sometime she tries to scratch herself with her missing leg and falls over," he added.

Mills is so emotionally attached to Lily that she considers her to be priceless.

"I've had Lily since she was a two-day-old chick. I was given her by a friend who reared chickens. She's much more fun than a cat or a dog. She struts about as if she rules the roost - she really thinks she's top of the pecking order in our household," she said.
