Johannesburg, Aug 21: United Progressive Alliance Chairperson Sonia Gandhi arrived here today on a three-day visit to boost ties between India and South Africa.
Gandhi has cut short her visit, which was earlier planned for four days, apparently due to the ongoing stand-off with the Left allies over the Indo-US civil nuclear deal.
During the visit, Gandhi is scheduled to meet South Africa's former President Nelson Mandela in Johannesburg, followed by talks with President Thabo Mbeki and Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka in Cape Town.
She will also visit the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg before visiting Parliament at the invitation of Speaker Baleka Mbete.
She will also deliver a lecture on "The Relevance of Gandhian Philosophy in the 21st Century" at the University of Cape Town.
