Pak nuke programme still a threat to US: Casey

Senator Robert Casey has cautioned that Pakistans nuclear programme continues to pose a threat to United States security.

Washington, Aug 2 : Senator Robert Casey has cautioned that Pakistan's nuclear programme continues to pose a threat to United States' security.

Addressing a Foreign Relations Committee meeting on non-proliferation, the Dawn quoted Casey as stressing the need to strengthen the nuclear non-proliferation regime to prevent nuclear weapons from falling into the hands of terrorists.

"To the extent that states like North Korea and Iran succeed in acquiring nuclear weapons, and unstable regimes like Pakistan continue to expand existing nuclear arsenals, that threat will continue to grow," Casey said, while outlining a 'nightmarish scenario of a nuclear weapon exploding in an American city.'
