Dubai, Aug 2 : Former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has confirmed meeting President Pervez Musharraf in Abu Dhabi last week, but said she is still confused about the General's real intentions and next course of action.
"I fail to understand whether Musharraf wants to quit his office or wants the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) to give him a safe passage," Bhutto told Sindh TV
She said despite initiating a dialogue process on many fronts with Musharraf, there is absolutely no place for a President in uniform.
Bhutto said negotiations with the Musharraf regime are far from over, and she has not yet reached any power sharing deal with the government.
"To anyone who is saying it's a done deal, let me tell you, those conclusions are way too premature. There are a number of issues that remain to be resolved. We insist the elections be free and fair, issue of the uniform, issue of the power sharing between the military and Parliament," Bhutto said.
She rejected criticism that the reported power-sharing deal forged with Musharraf was engineered to benefit her personally.
"If I wanted to reach a deal to safeguard my own interests, I could have done it a long time ago," the Gulf News quoted Bhutto, as saying.
She said her negotiations with Musharraf are to facilitate Pakistan's transition to democracy, and a level-playing field for all political parties.
On her return to Pakistan without the threat of arrest, she said, "Of course, I want to return to Pakistan. Of course, I want the politically motivated cases against me to be dropped."
Bhutto has been criticised by opposition parties back home for negotiating with the military leader.
Increasing the pressure on Musharraf over uniform issue, Bhutto warned that time for him was running out.
"This is the time, the time is now. Decisions have to be made. Presidential, parliamentary and prime ministerial elections are all taking place between October and December."
