Visiting US Assistant Secretary of State, Richard Boucher, has expressed confidence about President General Pervez Musharraf resolving the uniform issue according to the Constitution of Pakistan.

Islamabad, Aug 17 : Visiting US Assistant Secretary of State, Richard Boucher, has expressed confidence about President General Pervez Musharraf resolving the uniform issue according to the Constitution of Pakistan.

"The uniform issue will be dealt with according to the Constitution as Musharraf has been saying to everyone," Boucher said while wrapping up his two-day visit to Pakistan.

Boucher reiterated that the US wants fair and free elections in Pakistan, which provide a fair chance to everyone to take part in the polling process.

"There's a definite commitment there for the election, but it's also part of a bigger programme," the Daily Times quoted him as saying, adding, "It fits with making a stable transition from military rule to a newly-elected government this fall, and that's a process we look forward to."

Boucher urged all political parties to participate in the general election to help a smooth transition towards proper civilian rule.

Commenting on reports that the US was considering action against militants who have taken a safe haven in Pakistan, he said that Washington and Islamabad would work together if actionable evidence were found about the presence of militants in Pakistani territory.
