West Bengal Governor accepts Ganguly resignation as head of HRC

In the wake of allegations of sexual misconduct with law intern, the resignation of the 66 year old Justice AK Ganguly as Chairman of the West Bengal Human Rights Commission was accepted by the West Bengal Governor MK Narayan.
Highly placed sources said that Ganguly has personally handed over the resignation and was accepted. However, highly placed sources had said Justice Ganguly handed over his resignation, four days after the Union Cabinet met and decided to make a Presidential reference to the Supreme Court for his removal from the post as mandated under the Human Rights Commission Act.
The former Supreme Court judge refused to step down even after a three judge panel committee had indicted him. It held the statement of the intern both written and oral had prima facie disclosed ' an act of unwelcome behaviour by the judge with her in the Le Meridien hotel room.
