VHP urges President of India for enhanced security to Narendra Modi

April 28, 2014 - New Delhi

The Viswa Hindu Parishad urged the President of India Pranab Mukherjee for enhanced security cover to the Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

In a letter to the President, Ashok Singhal said that suicide bombers may target Narendra Modi on the lines of the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. 'This is to request your highest offices to ensure immediately through your government and the State Governments an upgraded, comprehensive and fool proof security cover for the safety of the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Shri Narendra Modi. The country in general and his supporters in particular are concerned over a possible attack being made on him,' he said in the letter to him on Monday. Singhal added that the Intelligence Bureau has issued a high alert of a possible suicide bomber threat to Narendra Modi. The inputs also stated that it is likely that a suicide bomber may target him in the guise as a supporter.

Narendra Modi's security cover has also been a subject of intense BJP-Congress political fight. Modi is a 'Z+' category protectee of the elite 'black cat' commandos of the National Security Guard. 45 commandos from the National Security Guard (NSG) and Gujarat Police, deployed in multiple layers and they are guarding him.
