Supreme Court stays death sentence of execution in Delhi gang rape case

The Supreme Court of India on Saturday stayed the death sentence execution of the two convicts in December 16, 2012 Delhi gang rape case.
The two convicts Mukesh and Pawan. moved the Supreme Court challenging the Delhi High Court challenging the verdict. A Bench comprising justices Ranjana Prakash Desai and Shiva Kirti Singh in an urgent hearing stayed the execution till March 31, 2014.
The Bench directed the registry to communicate the order to the prison authorities immediately and place the matter before the Chief Justice of India within eight days for allocating to the appropriate bench.
It may be recalled here that the Delhi High Court on Thursday upheld the death sentences awarded to four convicts saying that not worthy of human condonation and society cannot be a spectator to such depraved behaviour.
