Stampede leaves 18 people killed and 45 injured

January 18, 2014 - New Delhi

A stamped that occurred on Saturday morning in the Malabar Hill area where unexpected crowd from Dawoodi Bohra community gathered to pay last respects to the departed spiritual leader Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. when thousands of people gathered at the residence of the departed leader in the Mumbai Malabar Hill area where his body was kept. Mumbai Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh said that the gate of the bungalow that was closed led to the stampede and the police had to rush the Rapid Action Force (RAF) to bring the situation under control, said the Police Commissioner.

Funeral will take place at 3pm

Syedna's funeral has been scheduled to take at 3pm on Saturday. Lakhs of people are expected to gather for Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddi's funeral that will take place at Bhendi Bazar area at 3pm.
