Former BJP president Bangaru Lakshman passed away

Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Bangaru Laxman (74) passed away at Yashoda Hospital in Secunderabad on Saturday while undergoing treatment.

He is survived by wife Suseela Lakshman (MP) three daughters and one son.

Bandaru Lakshman was the party national president during 2000-2001. He worked as Union Minister for Railways during 1999-2000. He was sent to jail during 1975 Emergency.

Bangaru Lakshman born on March 17, 1939 has his last breath on March 1, 2014 while undergoing treatment at Yashoda Hospital on Saturday in Secunderabad.

Lakshman was born in a Dalit family to parents Narasimha and Shivamma. He did his B.A., LLB., in Hyderabad. His wife Suseela Laxman was a Member of Parliament during the 14th Lok Sabha.

He was elected to Parliament from Jalore constituency from Rajasthan on BJP ticket. He was elected to Rajya Sabha in 1996 and held many positions including Minister for State for Railways during 1999-2000 and the party president during 2000-2001. He was convicted by a special CBI court on April 27, 2012 for taking bribe and was sentenced to four years imprisonment and was on bail on medical grounds when he had his last breath.
