  • Chief Justice of India Altamas Kabir has opened the first of the five fast-track courts to try cases of sexual offences in Delhi. Speaking on the occasion, Altamas Kabir warned that a swift trial should not come at the cost of fair trail. He added that had the Supreme court guidelines on tinted glasses was implemented properly rape cases could have been averted.
  • A lawyer representing the Saket District Bar Council has said 2500 advocates registered at the court have decided not to represent the six accused in the Delhi gangrape case to ensure speedy justice.
  • The Supreme court of India upheld the appointment of justice RA Mehta as Lokayukta of Gujarat by the Governor. The apex court said that the appointment was done in consultation with the Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court. The post of Lokayukta had been lying vacant for more than nine years since the resignation of Justice SM Soni on 24 November 2003.
