Voting on the SC/ST promotion quota bill in Rajya Sabha today

As expected, the Samajwadi Party has announced that it will oppose the SC/ST promotion quota bill. The Rajya Sabha will today vote on the bill seeking to provide quota in promotions in government jobs for dalits and tribals. The voting is likely to take place at 5 pm today. The main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party is expected to vote in favor of the bill.
Senior leader of the Samajwadi Party Mohan Singh said that they would continue to oppose the bill. He said that the Supreme Court has denied an approval thrice, but the govenrment is still after making a bill on it.
The bill was introduced in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday by Minister of State in Prime Minister's office V Narayanasamy. The house has debated on the bill since then with several disruptions and unruly scenes witnessed. The Samajwadi Party has staged a walk out on Thursday protesting the introduction of the bill.
