Supreme Court directs Rae Bareily court to hear a Babri demolition conspiracy case expeditiously


December 6, 2012 - New Delhi

The Supreme Court of India on Thursday has directed a Rae Bareily court to expeditiously hear the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition conspiracy case against senior BJP leader LK Advani and 19 others. The case involved the veteran BJP leader and 19 others against whom charges of criminal conspiracy was dropped by the trial court. The CBI has moved to the Supreme Court challenging the May 21, 2010 Allahabad High Court judgment which has upheld a special court's decision to drop the conspiracy charges.

A Supreme Court bench comprising of justices HL Dattu and CK Prasad directed the trial court to hear the case expeditiously. It also allowed the CBI to remove the name of Shiv Sena leader Bal Thackeray from the list of accused as he died recently. The bench also expressed its anguish over the non appearance of the counsel for CBI to argue the case and said that the law officer is taking the court "casually".

The others against whom the CBI wants conspiracy charges to be filed are Kalyan Singh, Uma Bharti, Satish Pradhan, CR Bansal, MM Joshi, Vinay Katiyar, Ashok Singhal, Giriraj Kishore, Sadhvi Ritambhara, VH Dalmia, Mahant Avaidhynath, RV Vedanti, Param Hans Ram Chandra Das, Jagdish Muni Maharaj, BL Sharma, Nritya Gopal Das, Dharam Das, Satish Nagar and Moreshwar Save.
