Sharad Yadav declines to comment on Nitish's remarks on Modi

June 20, 2012 - New Delhi

Leader of Janata Dal -United (JD-U), Sharad Yadav, declined to comment on the remark made by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, seeking a secular leader as the prime ministerial candidate for elections in 2014.

He said this while addressing mediapersons here on Wednesday.

Earlier, in an interview to an English daily, Nitish Kumar had said that the National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 General elections should be a secular person, allegedly hinting at unsuitability of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

Kumar and Modi have been known to have an uneasy relation within the coalition and this remark comes as an indirect attack on the latter's prime ministerial aspirations.

Yadav said that the alliance partners of the NDA would meet and discuss the issue related to the prime ministerial candidate for elections in 2014.

"I briefed mediapersons after the NDA meet. I stick to the same statement that I made and if there is any change, I will let you know. When Advani wants, he might call for a meeting. As of now, the discussions are in progress. We have not decided on anything as of now," he said.
