  • After the attack at US diplomatic missions in Libya and Egypt yesterday, the Ministry of Home Affairs has directed the states and an Union territory to tighten security at the five diplomatic missions in the country.
  • Jammu and Kashmir Police arrest Mehrajuddin Dand, a suspected terrorist who is operating for over 20 years. He is alleged to have helped the hijacking of IC-814 in 1999. Dand also has links with Dawood Ibrahim. The Delhi Armed Police (DAP) is guarding the Chanakyapuri area in New Delhi where the US embassy is located. The state police were guarding the four consulates in Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Hyderabad.
  • Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has inaugurated the golden jubilee celebrations of Kerala Union of Working Journalists in Kochi.
  • The Mumbai police has formed a Special Investigation Team to probe the case of the Kanpur-based cartoonist Aseem Trivedi who is charged with sedition.
  • The Coal Ministry decides to de-allocate four blocks allocated to Castron Mining Limited, Fieldmining and Ispat Limited, and DOMCO Smokeless Fuels Pvt. Limited and Shri Virangana Steels Limited for failing to develop them within the stipulated time as specified in their contracts.
  • Priyanka Gandhi, daughter of AICC president Sonia Gandhi has said that it is high unlikely that she would contest the 2014 general elections. There were rumors earlier that Priyanka would contest from Rae Bareli, the constituency from which Sonia Gandhi had contested earlier.
  • The Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs has approved a Rs. 5 hike in the price of diesel. The decision was taken at a meeting at the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's residence in New Delhi. The price of Petrol, LPG and Kerosene were left unchanged.
