Samajwadi Party warns promotion quota bill will be scrutinised in Supreme Court
December 17, 2012 - New Delhi
The Samajwadi Party, on Monday, warned the government of a serious fall out if the SC/ST promotion quota bill is passed in the Rajya Sabha. Speaking during the debate on the bill, SP Rajya Sabha member Ram Gopal Yadav said that the government was pushing the constitutional amendment bill 'just for some people'. The remark is an indirect reference to the Bahujan Samaj Party.
The party also warned the government that the bill will be scrutinised in the Supreme Court if passed. Another SP member Naresh Agarwal demanded that the bill should be referred to a Parliamentary Standing Committee.
Samajwadi Party is in a minority opposing the bill in the upper house. It urged the members of the political parties not to vote against their conscience. The party earlier announced that they would vote against the bill during voting in the Rajya Sabha.
