Rural electrification project launched to develop Maoist-hit Purulia

July 1, 2012 - Purulia

Purulia district administration has initiated a rural electrification project, titled the 'Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana' here and its surrounding villages.

Purulia's District Magistrate Avanindra Singh told reporters that the project would benefit locals and would improve developmental work in the Maoist-hit region.

"With this electrification project, the villagers are benefiting and the children who were not been able to study at night can now study. In the coming days the villagers would feel more secure, as initially they feared wild animals, as there was no light at night. This step aims to improve the developmental work," Singh said.

Singh added that most of the villages had electricity, and the remaining few would be facilitated at the earliest.
