President, Vice President greet nation on occasion of Mahavir Jayanti

President Pratibha Devisingh Patil and Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari have greeted the people on the auspicious occasion of Mahavir Jayanti, which is being celebrated tomorrow.

"On the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti, I convey my greetings and good wishes to all my fellow citizens," said President Patil in her message.

"May we all resolve to banish violence in thoughts, words and deeds and strive for the establishment of a compassionate and caring society," she added.

Vice President Ansari in his message said that Bhagwan Mahavir, an apostle of non-violence, truthfulness, peace and universal love has led mankind on a righteous path.

"I extend my good wishes to the citizens of our country on the auspicious occasion of Mahavir Jayanti. Bhagwan Mahavir, an apostle of non-violence, truthfulness, peace and universal love, has led mankind on a righteous path. His divine teachings are relevant and inspire all to emancipate mankind from suffering," said Vice President Ansari.

"On this occasion, let us rededicate ourselves to follow Bhagwan Mahavir's teachings for enduring peace and happiness," he added.

Mahavir Jayanti, also known asMahavir Janma Kalyanak is the most important religious holiday. It celebrates the birth of Mahavira, the last Tirthankara.
