Motocross madness hits New Delhi as riders perform breathtaking stunts

July 1, 2012 - New Delhi

Riders put up daring motocross performances here, enthralling audiences with some spectacular and spine chilling stunts.

Red Bull X Fighters Jams made their four-stroke bikes look like surfboards as they perform on them an assortment of breathtaking manoeuvres.

A stunt biker from Belgium, Giles De Jong told media Saturday that regardless of the hot weather he enjoyed the performance of the stunt men and would like to come back again in future.

"Its super hot because its not like this in Belgium and after the first German ... it is good to ride and people is great and I have good feeling for riding here," said Jong.

Four of the stunt bikers performed aerial stunts, which was like an adrenal rush for the audience.

Punjabi rapper Honey Singh and some other performers entertained the viewers with their chart-busting numbers.

A stunt biker, Nick Franklin, said the aim of organising such an event in India, was to promote motocross sport, which is gaining momentum across the globe.

"It will take some time but ten years ago the sport was relatively unknown and this has grown from America to Europe now in Asia and Middle East, its getting bigger and bigger. I am sure its going to keep on happening every where. Hopefully this is going to spark something and hopefully we see X-Fighters again here, that's the goal so it will be fantastic," said Franklin.

Motocross riding involves an acrobatic maneuvering of a motorcycle and the rider.

The common maneuvers in stunt riding include wheelies, stoppies and burnouts.

Though a recent trend, stunt bike riding is slowly catching up with youngsters with the emergence of stunt based reality shows in the country

A large number of tourists from various parts of the country as well as from abroad were among the spectators.
