Mamata Banerjee to lead demonstrations at Jantar Mantar

Trinamool Congress

October 1, 2012 - New Delhi

Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee will lead a demonstration at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi today against the 'anti-people' policies of the Centre. The Trinamool Congress has parted ways with the United Progressive Alliance coalition on the FDI in retail and the diesel price hike recently, which forced the government to become minority.

The demonstration will begin at 11 am at Jantar Mantar. Mamata Banerjee is expected to address the gathering at about 2 pm. Even though, the Delhi Police has given permission for 5000 people to attend the demonstration, many more are expected to participate. Most of MPs of the Trinamool Congress has already reached Delhi by Sunday.

Announcing Mamata Banerjee's decision to lead the demonstrations on Sunday, Trinamool Congress MP KD Singh said that the demonstration at Jantar Mantra was part of the TMC's solidarity with the 'aam admi'. The TMC will not rest till the government rolls back the recent decisions.

Mamata Banerjee has been in Delhi for the past two days laying the groundwork for the protests today. She announced that she is giving up the government flat in central Delhi, which she held for the last 19 years.

The Trinamool Congress party has 19 members in the Lok Sabha.
