India Goes Digital with Convergence India 2012

March 16, 2012 - New Delhi, Delhi, India

In 1991, India embarked on a new journey of liberalization and globalization with the world economy, and reforms were introduced. Global telecom at that time was undergoing a transition from public to private enterprise. Satellites in the sky were being used to broadcast news to a hungry population. The Internet was gaining popularity and that’s when Convergence India Expo was born.

After two successful and glorious decades, India’s pioneers in the field of trade fairs and one of the country’s finest trade promotion organizers- Exhibitions India Group is presenting the milestone 20th edition of South Asia’s largest event Convergence India 2012, during 21-23 March at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

Keeping pace with the changing industry trends, the anniversary edition of the expo have a special focus on the broadcasting sector. A dedicated conference session titled ”Roadmap for Digitization” offers an opportunity to meet around 4,000 cable operators over a span of 3 days at the exhibition.

With the government’s nod to digitize cable TV, the Indian broadcasting sector is all set to witness structural changes in the coming years. This move will hugely benefit the consumers and the broadcasting industry.

These developments will lead to transparency in the entire system while creating a win-win situation for every stakeholder. Fundamentally, this will provide customers with wider choices, enhanced viewing pleasure and content tailored to suit niche audiences. The government would also benefit via increase in service tax collections.

The conference session on “Roadmap for Digitization” brings into focus the roadblocks on the path to digitization, will also attempt to explore a possible solution for cable operator, MSOs and the consumers.

“The Government of India has been keenly interested to provide customers with digital broadcast content. With this in view, targets have been established for the country to go digital by 2014. Advantages will accrue to the treasury and to consumers. Cable networks will be upgraded, and equipment vendors will have opportunities to provide the latest technologies and systems for this purpose. 20th Convergence India 2012 is the only platform in the country for all stakeholders to discuss and apply the “Roadmap for Digitization”, said Mr. Prem Behl, Chairman, Exhibitions India Group.
