Government introduces SC/ST promotion quota bill in Rajya Sabha

December 13, 2012 - New Delhi

Minister of State for Prime Minister's Office V Narayanasamy has introduced the SC/ST promotion quota bill in the Rajya Sabha today. He moved the bill after the Samajwadi Party members walked out of the House protesting the consideration of bill.

A debate on the bill soon followed. Leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha and BJP senior leader Arun Jaitely participating in the debate said that his party will move some amendments into the bill. He urged the government to reconsider some provisions of the promotion quota bill. "I will urge the government to seriously reconsider this... If someone has doubtful integrity, then he will still be entitled to promotion," Jaitley said.
