- Ram Singh, the prime accused in the gangrape of a 23-year-old girl in Delhi was sent to police custody for five days. All the six culprits in the case would be charged with attempt to murder along with from rape. Vinay Sharma, Mukesh and Pawan Gupta have been arrested, while two others are still on the run. The doctors who are treating the victim said that her condition is serious and unusual. The father of the accused said that the guilty should be punished if proven guilty.
- At least six people were killed and several others were injured when a slab at an under-construction site in Pune collapsed. The accident happened about 30 km from Pune.
- Congress MLA Ram Niwas Ghorela and his security guards allegedly abused and assaulted women travelling in a car for not giving way to the vehicle in which the MLA was travelling. The incident happened on the Jind-Hisar road in Harayana. The police lodged a complaint against the MLA.
- Lok Sabha passed the Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2011 which is a major reforms legislation. The government dropped the controversial provisions relating to allowing banks to trade in futures.
