DMK formally announces support for Pranab

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party headed by former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has formally decided to vote for UPA nominee Pranab Mukherjee in the presidential election on 19th. DMK has 18 MPs in the Lok Sabha and seven in the Rajya Sabha. They also have 23 MLAs in the state Assembly.

The Party MPs and MLAs have met at the DMK headquarters in Chennai where they had brief consultations. Party chief Karunanidhi announced to the media that they have decided to vote for Pranab. DMK has always said that they will support Pranab Mukherjee in the presidential election. They are one of the first allies of UPA to announce their support. Pranab even started his presidential campaign from Tamil Nadu. Karunanidhi even hosted a dinner for Pranab Mukherjee.

UPA's opposition NDA is supporting PA Sangma for the president and Jaswant Singh for the vice-presidential post.
