Congressmen clash among themselves in Ranchi

The Congress party meeting to review its Hatia bye-election debacle turned violent here on Sunday, as party workers clashed among each other.

State Congress president Pradeep Balmuchu had called the meeting that turned violent, s allegedly, supporters of Subodh Kant Sahay punched and kicked their colleagues and disrupted the meet.

Narrating the turn of events, Kamta Prasad, a victim and Congress activist, said, The meeting had just begun. We, around 10 to 15 workers, had come and more were coming. Meanwhile, his (Subodh Kant Sahay's) supporters came and tore the bed-sheet and began punching and kicking many of us."

He further asserted that the Congress was not a "fiefdom," and added that such "unruly" behaviour should not be tolerated.

"The Congress is not someone's fiefdom. The state chief had directed to review the reasons (of the defeat). The Congress is not someone's fiefdom and many people have been working for the Congress for more than 40 years. Such a unruly behaviour shouldn't be tolerated," Prasad said.

The disgruntled members of the party had been targeting the minister after his brother Sunil Sahay lost his deposit in the polls.
