BJP welcomes CBI raids in coal gate row

September 4, 2012 - New Delhi

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) welcomed the CBI raids in the coal gate row and said that the Government should take a cue from the investigation agency and cancel the coal blocks allocations.

Speaking to reporters after the BJP Parliamentary Party meeting, Deputy leader of BJP in Lok Sabha Gopinath Munde said "We welcome the CBI raids. It is a good development. Taking a cue from this, the government should also cancel the coal block allocations. It should also reply in Parliament as to why it is not cancelling the allocations. It is clear that the government is not ready for a debate and is running away from it,"

The CBI earlier filed its first set of FIRs against five companies, owners of the companies and unknown officials in the coal ministry. They also held raids early today in 30 locations across 10 cities.

The MPs of BJP continued to disrupt the proceedings in the Parliament as both houses of the Parliament were adjourned till 12 noon today. The party is not giving up in their demand of the resignation of the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the cancellation of coal blocks allocated. The party is also planning to take up the issue to the public by holding public meetings, protests and rallies across the country.
