Anna Hazare and Baba Ramdev announce protests against UPA Government

July 17, 2012 - Pune

Social activist Anna Hazare and Yoga guru Baba Ramdev once again come together in public to announce their joint fight against the Government's negligent attitude to bring a strong Lokpal bill and to bring the black money stashed away abroad. The duo accused the UPA government Tuesday for not showing enough resolve in tackling corruption. Speaking to reporters ahead of their proposed protests in Delhi, Hazare and Ramdev said that the Government is not bothered about bringing back the black money stashed away abroad. They have addressed the media in Pune today.

Team Anna is planning to launch an indefinite protest from July 25 at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. On the other hand, Baba Ramdev will lead protests at Ramlila Maidan from August 9 onwards.

"Baba Ramdev is fighting to bring back black money. We are demanding a strong Lokpal to fight corruption. But the government has no intention to do so. They do not have the will power. Why efforts are not being taken to bring black money stashed abroad? There may be people in government who have hidden black money. This may be the reason. What is preventing them from taking action?", Hazare said.

Baba Ramdev said that the Government is denying their claims saying that they is no proof. Ramdev questioned that without an independent investigation, the truth will not come out. He demanded an independent probe into their claims, and not a CBI probe, as this is an agency under the control of the government.

Hazare has been fighting for a Lokpal bill since the last couple of years. He staged a 98-hour hunger strike demanding a strong Lokpal bill in April 2011.
