Ajit Pawar takes oath as Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra
December 7, 2012 - Mumbai, Maharashtra, India
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar took oath as Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister today. He was inducted back into the state cabinet, two months after he has resigned from the post in the wake of the irrigation scam. Ajit Pawar was given a clean chit after the government has released a white paper on the irrigation in the state in the past decade.
Ajit Pawar took oath of office and secrecy at 9:30 am in the ceremony that was held at Raj Bhavan. State Governor Shankar Narayanan administered the oath and Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan was present at the ceremony. The BJP and Shiv Sena parties have boycotted the swearing-in ceremony.
Ajit Pawar's return to the cabinet will boost the government who are looking to defend the claims of the opposition parties in the wake of the irrigation scam.
