Women undergo Karate training in Dharamsala

October 27, 2011 - Dharamsala

Himachal Pradesh police conducted a one-month long karate-training camp for girls to minimize cases of eve teasing and molestation.

The camp was aimed at motivating girls to learn basic karate and judo from experts to counter the menace.

The training camp was held under the auspices of 'Samarth Yojana'.

Trainer and police constable Surekha said the training would give girls confidence to face incidents of eve teasing.

"Under the Samarth Yojana, young girls are provided training, so that they can tackle any problem in the future. The main aim of this Unarmed Combats' force course is to enable them to practice self-defence and self-protection," said Surekha.

The girls said the workshop would help them to deal with incidents of sexual harassment.

"If anybody will tease a girl, as it is very common these days, then the girl can tackle that person on her own and protect herself," said Viyanta, a participant.
