UPA allies equally responsible for high inflation and graft: BJP

November 10, 2011 - New Delhi

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain has held the allies of the Congress led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) equally responsible for the increasing inflation and corruption in the country.

"The Congress couldn't be held alone responsible for all graft scams and inflation, since one single party does not run government," he told the media here.

"On one side it is not possible for all alliances to hold important and high profile ministries and on other side to distance themselves from Congress, which is involved in the charges of corruption and inflation. The decision taken by cabinet is based on collective views and an individual does not run government, cabinet runs it. So their alliance cannot distance themselves from the increased inflation and corruption," he added.

Recently petrol prices were hiked by rupees 1.82 , with the price of one litre of petrol in Delhi being Rs. 68.66.

Apart from rising inflation, the government is marred over the various charges of corruption and black money.

Hussain further said that Congress President Sonia Gandhi along with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh are responsible for covering up for the various eminent leaders involved in corruption scams.

"Just by saying some words against corruption in any Congress session or seminar or saying in parliament that we will fight against corruption and then not taking any step against corruption, then Sonia Gandhi is as much as responsible as prime minister for not curbing it," he said.

Hussain further demanded an explanation that why Party High Command is defending their leaders who are indicted in various scams.

"Who is defending Home Minister Chidambaram on 2G spectrum? Sonia Gandhi should tell country that, who is defending Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit even when she was indicted in Shunglu committee report on Commonwealth Games scam. Sonia Gandhi must tell that even after being interrogated by CBI in Adarsh society scam, how can Sushil Shinde and Vilasrao Deshmukh continue to serve as ministers?" he said.
