Tangmarg Power Project provides employment in J-K

August 14, 2011 - Srinagar

The construction of a power project in Tangmarg region of Jammu and Kashmir has opened new avenues of employment for the people and solved the problem of power shortage in the region.

Authorities planned to construct the power project in the Tangmarg region due to the availability of water for the generation of power.

The project is aimed at providing power to the local population and employment opportunities in various areas of Tangmarg including Drung, Mahim and Feroz Pora.

"This is a 10 mega watt power project under construction and three units will be required in it. This project will give 10 megawatt power and this will be consumed by Tangmarg district, all the power generated will be consumed within Kashmir and it wont be supplied outside," said Gulam Ahmad Lone, Power Project Site Engineer.

The development of the region would also take place after the power plant becomes operational.

"This project was very much required in the area as there is a lot of unemployment among the youth here, due to which we lacked development in the area. But now when this is being constructed now we will get employment opportunities which will get good results," said a local resident, Ahmad.

This is the first time that government had constructed such type of power project with the help of Magpie Hydel Construction Operation and industries Private Limited.

The project with an estimated cost of over 75 crores, is likely to be completed by August 2012.
