'Ramdev is neither a yoga guru nor a baba,' says Lalu Prasad

June 11, 2011 - New Delhi

Questioning the leadership credentials of Baba Ramdev, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad on Saturday said that the yoga guru is no 'guru', but is merely a physical trainer.

Addressing the media in New Delhi, Lalu said that Ramdev had done a good job earlier by helping people with various ailments, but maintained he is no one to raise issues like corruption and black money.

"Media must correct itself that Ramdev is neither a yoga guru nor he is a 'baba'. He is a mere trainer and I am not saying this in anyone's favor. I am saying what is true and I told Baba, 'in our country there are people who are suffering from various disorders and diseases who do not prefer to exercise, and since you are helping those people so it's a good job that you are doing'," Lalu said.

Lalu said the rich have used social activists like Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal to fulfil their own motives.

"The rich of the country use people like Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal and on the other hand some use people like Balakrishna (Ramdev's aide) to fulfil their own motives. All these people were seen during the protests against black money, but now they are hiding. This is not the first time that someone like Ramdev and Anna Hazare have raised issues like black money and corruption," he said.

He added the Central government does not allow just anyone to come to the Parliament and raise unjustified demands, calling the anti-graft protests of Hazare and Ramdev 'a conspiracy against democracy and the system'.

"If someone from the roadside raises unjustified demands, we cannot fulfil them. This is a conspiracy against democracy and the system. We will not allow the constitution to be compromised on the whims of anybody that was enacted by Babasaheb Ambedkar," the former Bihar Chief Minister said.
