Prices have increased due to faulty policies, corruption carried out by UPA: Sushma Swaraj

November 20, 2011 - New Delhi

Stating that the insensitive government has raised the prices without bothering about the sentiments of the people, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushma Swaraj on Sunday said the prices have increased due to faulty policies and corruption carried out by the United Progressive Alliance (UPA).

Addressing a huge rally at Ramlila Ground here at the culmination of BJP veteran Lal Krishna Advani's 38 day-long 'Jan Chetana Yatra', Swaraj said: "This government became disgraceful at the start of the year 2010 and became disreputable before 2011. It became disgraceful because of the price rises and became disreputable due to corruption. The problem with the price rises is that they have always increased. Since the start of the sessions of the 15th Lok Sabha, we shook this government in every Parliament session, but this insensitive government has raised the prices without bothering about the sentiments of the people."

"I want to state that the facts provided by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh are senseless. The truth is, the prices have increased due to faulty policies and corruption carried out by the government," she added.

Meanwhile, another senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley, who was also present on the occasion, echoing similar sentiments labelled the UPA Government to be the most corrupt government in India's history.

"Today, in the history of the country, if any corrupt government has ruled, it is the UPA Government led by Manmohan Singh. A lot of scams like the 2G spectrum, CWG (Commonwealth Games) took place which could not be anticipated," he said.

Jaitley also criticised the UPA's accusation over the involvement of BJP ideologue Sudheendra Kulkarni along with former BJP lawmakers Mahabir Singh Bhagora and Faggan Singh Kulaste in the 2008 cash-for-votes scam.

"Why did the government accuse those parliamentarians who were the whistleblowers? It was because the Congress government tried to make a moral equivalent between the bribe givers and the parliamentarians of the BJP and the complainants have also been accused," he added.

Advani kicked off his nationwide tour from Sitab Diara village in Bihar on October 11 to take on the UPA Government on the corruption issue and press for return of black money stashed away abroad.

He covered 23 states and four Union Territories during his 'yatra'.
